Last Monday I was sitting at my kitchen table after a long day. It was 10:00 at night, I was tired and I wanted to read a little about the news in Ukraine.
My three older kids were still up and they were trying to talk to me. They wanted to hang out with me, they were asking me about the war and wanted to know everything that’s going on.
I was tired, and really just wanted to read in peace. I didn’t even look up at them, I just said: “Go to bed already!”
The next morning it hit me. My kids, who I love more than anything in the world, wanted to talk to me, and instead of talking to them, all I wanted to do was read! By myself!
The more I thought about it, the more I realized how many times my kids (and wife) try talking to me and I’m on my phone.
I remember reading an article about how to minimize the use of social media for kids and I’m thinking, “What about adults?”
Here is what I’m thinking… I want to RADICALLY change the way we use our phones.
What if we all went off our phones from 5:00pm-9:00pm?
Before you say that I’m crazy, read till the end…
What would my home look like if there was no technology for those four hours? I would probably spend that time talking to my wife and kids. I would do homework with my kids peacefully, I would even have time to read or learn something. Honestly, I would probably be bored…
What would that do for your family?
Are you open to radically changing your life?
Maybe we could start a global campaign?
A 30 day challenge to go off our phones from 5:00-9:00. We would need to build a website? Get an expert on marketing? Get some celebrities involved? Maybe offer an incentive? Maybe we can
make a goal of getting one million people off their phones from 5:00-9:00?
Would you like to be part of such a campaign?
Yes, I know it’s a stretch.
Would you consider trying it yourself for 30 days and then give me feedback and we can see how it goes?
If four hours is too long, maybe you can go off your phone for only two hours?
I really believe it will radically change our lives.
Are you in?
