Do You Lie?

I lied.

My four year old son had a doctor’s appointment and was going to get another dose of some vaccine. When I told him we are going to the doctor, he began to kick and scream, and said he wouldn’t go. So I lied.  I told him, “Don’t worry, You’re not gonna get a shot.” I figured once we get there, we’ll just roll up his sleeve and do it quickly.

I don’t know why I couldn’t just be honest with him and tell him the truth, “I know a shot hurts and I know you don’t like it but that’s what we need to do”.

On Pesach we were going on a family trip, and as we were loading the car, one of my boys started acting up. I said to him, “If you don’t start behaving, you’re not going on the trip!” Literally as it was coming out of my mouth I knew it was a lie. Of course I would take him on the trip. Sad thing is, my son also knew I was lying; he knew he would go on the trip.
